BFF Open House

 

Happy Friday Eve all, and THIS IS NOT A DRILL...one week until American Thanksgiving. While never a big Black Friday shopper, it seems really anticlimactic anymore with BF sales starting before Halloween it seems. Yet somehow, I haven't even started my holiday shopping. 

Thankful. I had a lovely surprise when I linked up to Wednesday's Vintage Charm Party over at Our Hopeful Home and found my Paint Poured Pumpkins featured! 

This week I shared the Tablescape and Decor for which I made those, as well as the Thanksgiving Cards I made for family and friends. 

Before we go into full on December Holidays, let's take a look at a few ideas from last week's party honoring the season of Thankfulness.

Papercrafting: 2023 Thanksgiving Cards in Pink Copper Gold and White

 

I make Thanksgiving cards for friends and family to show my thankfulness about having them in our lives. Some years I set out to buy specific paper stacks based on color but this year I went through a bunch of stacks I already have (imagine that!) and pulled out coordinating papers from different stacks or from my loose papers. I found myself drawn to these colors which may not be traditional but neither am I! 

I had a bunch of these gold foiled transparencies from stocking up on past sales. I love how stylishe they make projects look! So those became the background panel for the cards, cut at 4.75 by 6.75. To maximize the yield from my 12x12 patterned papers, I cut these panels 4x6 and got 6 panels per sheet. 

I'm a Creative Fabrica subscriber so I downloaded this beautiful Floral Pumpkin to use as the focal for my cards. 

I imported into Cricut Design Space, sized, and cut my layers. This is where Mr. Chocolate usually appears in my craft room to say "Too much work!". 

I attached layer 2 to layer 1 with foam tape, layer 3 to layer to with my tape runner, and layer 4 to layer 3 with spray adhesive. 

You can see that some of the cards had a solid base layer in different colors, others had a patterned base but they're ll the same construction and color palette. 

To finish, I attached iridescent sequins with dimensional glue, and then tiny rhinestones to the center of those. 

I hope the recipients like them!

Home Decor: Thanksgiving in Blues and Greens

 

I mentioned in my Tissue Paper Dollar Tree Pumpkins post that I wanted to update some of my Thanksgiving decor to colors inspired by nature's colors around me. We don't get the changing of the leaves where I am, but we do have the beauty of Saguaros and other cacti, and gold and blue hues from other desert brush and foliage. 

I hit the jackpot with some finds from Dollar Tree and JoAnn sales so changing up my decor didn't break the bank. 

I found these candle holders, votive holders and acorns all at Dollar Tree! If you didn't know that's where they came from, would you guess that?

I lucked into a deal at JoAnn with the fabric I used for the table runner. It was already on sale but it was the end of the bolt and they gave me an extra discount, I didn't sew it but folded the long edges, gathered the short edges and used rubber bands to hold, then tucked them under and just played with it until I was satisfied. 

I grabbed an old farmhouse wood bowl we have from my husband's family to hold one of the Paint Poured pumpkins I made, the Tissue Paper Pumpkins, and misc pumpkin pics I found for 70% off at JoAnn. Then I added the Dollar Tree Votives, Candleholders, and Glass Vases (Dollar Tree) which I filled with Velvet Pumpkin clips, also from Dollar Tree. I used a garland I'd made years before and turkey candleholders from William Sonoma that I already had.

It's just me, Hubby, and my Mom but that doesn't mean I can't make it special, right? I also switched up my entry table.

I kept the look simple, using the big vase from Pottery Barn that's survived several moves. The Velvet Pumpkins are actually clips, so I put some in the bottom and clipped others to the branches that were already in the arrangement. 

The ribbons that inspired this went on candleholders that sit on this table. 

Then I added the acorns and another Paint Poured Pumpkin. 

I was still able to use my other items in different vignettes so clearly, I didn't have enough Thanksgiving decor 😂.

Happy Friday Eve all and can you believe it's exactly TWO WEEKS until American Thanksgiving?! I can't. It is. No!

I had fun this week with a couple of projects to switch up my Thanksgiving decor. I shared Tissue Paper Covered Pumpkins and Paint Pour Pumpkins and busy finishing up my Thanksgiving Cards. This is the time of year I'm at my most creative and tend to have more ideas than time. Wouldn't it make so much sense for me to write them all down and work on them throughout the year? Yes. Do I do that? No. Am I going to try to do that for 2024...we shall see!

Fall Decor: Paint Poured Paper Mache Pumpkins

 

In addition to the Tissue Paper Pumpkins I shared yesterday, I had fun this weekend paint pouring some paper mache pumpkins. I'm thrilled with how they turned out! 

Supplies:

• Paper Mache Pumpkins (70% off at JoAnn)
• Liquitex Acrylic Paint Pouring Medium (Michaels)
• Acrylic Craft Paints

I found these tall skinnier pumpkins for 70% off at JoAnn. Who could pass those up? Not me! You could do the paint pour on these as is but I knew I was using white in this project and really wanted it to pop so I coated with white acrylic paint. 

I was sure I took pics of my paints before I poured them but apparently not. So, I mixed white, green, and gold paints in their own cups along with Liquitex Pouring Medium. It's available wherever fine art supplies are sold. I got mine at Michaels. 

I am not an exact person. I guestimate how much I'll need for a project then do about 1/3 medium to 2/3 paint. Different paints have different viscosity. Metallic paints are sometimes thicker so I use a little more medium with them. I go for a consistency that's about the same as white school glue. And since pouring and taking pictures require more hands than I have, I didn't take pictures of the actual pouring. 

Some prefer layering the paints into one separate cup but I worked with the three colors/cups individually. Kind of like I cook. Some of this, some of that, more of this until the colors were dripping down the pumpkins to my liking. 

 This is the paint still wet and doing its thing of swirling, streaking, blending. I just let gravity do the work. 

Once dry, they almost look like they were carved from wood. SO happy with them! They were around $4 each and I already had everything else on hand.
