BFF Open House Link Party #201

Happy Friday Eve all. Hope everyone had a wonderful and lucky St. Patrick's Day! Easter will be upon us before you know it. Here are some ideas from last week's party to pin and try! 

While we've had a mild Winter, I know most of the country is more than ready for Spring. Artsy VaVa has a perfect way to get ready with this Spring wreath. 

With Spring and more outdoor sports and play, boo boos are bound to happen. A Creative Princess shared these adorable "Boo Boo Bunny" ice packs. Who wouldn't feel better immediately with one of these? 

This wood bead garland from Woods of Bell Trees would be perfect for a Spring mantle or draped around anything. I love the combination of the wood beads and mini lights. 

This week's chocolate feature is from Gator Mommy Reviews . Classic chocolate and peanut butter combo. Perfection.

Mod Podged Spring Basket Makeover

Sometimes you save something without a specific plan in mind for it but because you know based on the design that it’s a perfect candidate for a makeover. At least that’s the way my brain works and was the case with this project. Mr. Chocolate gave this to me a few years ago for Easter ( filled with chocolate of course) but ever getting it I’ve wanted to play with the basket itself because it was perfect for altering.



The shape and surface of this basket made it really easy to alter. I chose the Primrose Stack from DCWV which is a gorgeous combination of Spring designs and color.

The papers are gorgeously patterned so there was no need to really stamp or alter them. I used a couple of the fully patterned sheets and one sheet with borders for the basket. Using the basket as a tracing template, I cut pieces to cover each side and then coordinated with pieces from the border sheet.  I used Mod Podge to apply the papers to the basket and then painted the sides and handle with white craft paint.

Unlike the rest of the country , we’ve had a mild Winter and early Spring and I’ve been picking up fallen twigs and branches while out on walks. I grabbed a handful of these and combined them with rolled roses and leaves made from the paper scraps to decorate each side of the basket.

I haven’t quite decided what I’m putting in my basket yet but I like looking at it just on its own.

Happy Friday eve all! Not sure where this week went but thrilled for today both because of this party and College Boy being home for Spring Break! 

It's not easy being green but here are some ideas for next week's big green St. Patrick's fest: 

The guys from Crafty Lumberjacks upcycled their clover patch from last year into a fun shamrock wreath for this year! 

If you'd like to have something to wear that isn't necessarily green, how about a shamrock ring? Hoops by Hand has the how to. 

There's still time to make a lucky welcome sign for your front door with just a couple of items needed. It's Always Ruetten has the details.

Faux Metal Marquee Letters

A few weeks ago I picked up some of the Heidi Swapp “Marquee Love” letters at Michaels when they were 50% off. I chose our initials and the ampersand symbol, but between not having much creating time lately and not being able to decide whether I wanted to paint, glitter, or paper the letters they’ve been sitting here staring at me. I finally had time and made a decision that I would paint them and go for a galvanized metal look. I've seen real metal  galvanized marquee letters for over $100 each and while yes would they be wonderful to have....not for that price! 

For this project you will need:

• Heidi Swapp Marquee Love letter kit …each box contains a letter, a template to use if you’re going to use paper , light string and bulb covers
• Acrylic paint (  I used Folk Art Steel Gray)
• AAA batteries

The letters come with holes in them so you can place the lights evenly. There’s also an instruction sheet to help you place the letters in the right order.

Paint the letters. I used two coats of the Steel Gray and didn’t worry about covering evenly since I wanted a distressed metal look. Once your letters are dry, flip over and place your lights. Each letter comes with a guide sheet so you get them in the right order.

Once you have the lights placed, flip over and attach the light covers.

I think they look great lit or unlit and the battery holder has an easy on and off switch.

 

The letters retail for $12.99 each but with them being on sale I was able to get all three for under $20 which is far less than real metal letters would have cost.

Happy first Friday eve of March! Thanks for the party last week despite not having any features. Life has been a little crazy. Here are some features from last week's party! 

St. Patrick's Day is right around the corner and you don't need to be Irish to celebrate. Krista from We're Far From Normal has a great roundup of ideas. 

Burlap hates me which is a shame because I like it! I think in this roundup shared by Southern Scraps I might be able to find a project to help me make peace with some burlap! 

Spring is almost here and the perfect season for these fun tassel necklaces from Made In A Day. Tassels are very on trend right now but you don't have to spend a lot to get the look! 

Any time of year is a good time for Chocolate Mousse. I can't wait to try this four ingredient recipe from The Life Jolie!

Choose Joy Retirement Card

 

Sharing an easy card using an image from a sheet of scrapbooking papera as the focal. For this card I used two sheets of paper from the Timeless Type stack by DCWV along with one specialty glitter paper ( also by DCWV). Card is 5x7 . The background is the glitter paper and a strip of printed text town at the top and bottom.

The bike image was in the corner of the paper so I trimmed around it to size and matted with the glitter paper and black paper and added a strip of coordinating washi tape to the corner. It already looked like it had been stamped onto a watermarked background so I just added some rhinestones to the wheels to dress it up. I stamped the sentiment which I thought perfect for a retirement card ( $2 two pack set from Michaels) onto glossy white paper with black Staz-On, matted and mounted to the card as shown.

To finish, I added a mirrored banner from this pack by DCWV:

Quick and easy card that looks like it took more work than it did!
