Jewelrymaking: Rose Quartz Bracelet With Heart Charm

I had some silver heart beads left over from the earring project I shared and I remembered that I'd picked up a strand of Rose Quartz beads at Michaels not too long ago. They're really upped their game by carrying a much bigger selection of natural stone. Rose Quartz is a PERFECT stone to use with hearts or for Valentine's day because:

"Rose quartz is known as the crystal of unconditional love. It's said to boost feelings of self-love and foster loving relationships with others."

And I really liked these beads because of the paleness of the pink. I'm not a super pink person but these I call "neutral pink".

Supplies:

  • 12MM Rose Quartz Beads (Michaels)
  • Stretch Cord
  • Silver Heart Bead
  • Headpin
  • Black Crystal Beads
  • Crystal Cup Charms
  • Jewelry Plier
  • Jewelry or Super Glue

If I have a "signature" it's adding charm dangles to my stretch bracelets. It started with one and became a habit. So that's the first thing I did using the same process I did to make my earrings.

I used one of the heart beads and two more black crystal beads strung on a headpin.

After stringing the Rose Quartz beads on the stretch cord to fit my wrist, I tied off the cord with a simple knot and then added a dot of Super Glue, let dry, then tied another overhand knot.

I opened a jump ring and added the charm to it.

To finish, add the dangle to the bracelet. I also added a Charm A Long crystal charm because I'm blingy like that.

Like the earrings I made, it doesn't scream "Valentine's" to me but something that can be worn whenever.

Jewelry Making: Copper and Silver Chain Earrings

I have a bunch of jewelry supplies left over from a stint on a design team. Of course, that doesn't mean I haven't or won't continue buying more but I wanted a pair of earrings that were "Fall" now that it's actually feeling like it here in the desert. I primarily wear silver but decided to branch out and use some copper. I was in Michaels (see...impossible not to add new supplies!) and saw some copper earring pieces ON SALE and remembered some chain I had in my stash.

Supplies:
  • Copper Earring Components (Michaels)
  • Copper and Silver Chain (Stash)
  • Clip Earring Backs (Michaels)
  • Silver Floral Charms (Shipwreck Beads)
  • Jewelry Glue or Super Glue (Aleene's Jewelry Glue, Walmart)

NOTE: I don't have pierced ears, hence the clip on backs. To get the same look for pierced ears, use post style findings to glue to the floral charms.

The chain I used also had gold links. Since I don't really wear much gold, I removed these and set them aside for other projects.

After taking off the gold links, I separated six sets of three links using just the copper and silver.

Each earring component can hold three sets so I did silver, copper, silver for the ends and copper, silver, copper, for the center.

The earring components came with their own jump rings which I used to attach the trio of links.

At this point you could attach fish hook ear wires.

With the earring backs glued to the charms, I attached these to the earrings using a silver jump ring from my stash, et voila!

I love the copper for "Fallvember" especially since I always associate Fall with copper.

Multi Strand Snake Chain Necklace

Multi Strand Snake Chain Necklace

“Snakes! Why did it have to be snakes? “ So said Indiana Jones and I quite agree! My most recent batch of goodies as part of the Blue Moon Beads design team was full of all kinds of chain including a type I’ve never used before: snake chain. Disclosure: Supplies were provided to me ; design and opinions are mine.

Like Indy, I hate snakes but couldn’t wait to play with this unfortunately named chain.

Snake Chains

Here are three different sizes of snake chain ( the lower right is a woven chain) so named I assume because it's kinda tubey like a snake?  To use this chain you need to attach specific end caps ( they come w/ the packages of the chain) and just need a little jewelry glue to attach.

I cut each type of chain to about 16 inches, attached the end caps and then grouped the chains together using jump rings. This is a really simple project. The depth and texture comes from the variety of chains used.

Snake Chain Necklace BMB

I didn’t intentionally twist the chains. I just kind of let them do their thing and wasn’t trying to make them lay flat. I like the way they just do what they do and you can see in the first picture how they hang.

Snake Chain Choker

I used a toggle clasp to finish and voila!

Supplies Needed:
  • BMB 1MM, 3MM and 6MM Snake Chain
  • BMB 5MM Silver Woven Chain
  • BMB Silver Toggle Clasp
  • Silver Jump Rings
  • Jewelry Glue
You can find BMB supplies at your local JoAnns.

Vintage Winter Wonderland Mantle

Vintage Christmas Mantle 2013

Are you a traditionalist who uses the same decorations each year no matter what, or are you someone who has to have a new look every year? Or, are you like me… a combination of both?

Thought I’d share this year’s mantle which is a combination of new additions and repurposed pieces from prior years.

VIntage Repurposed Christmas Jar

New to the mantle this year are my Vintage Christmas Vignette in a Jar and Bleached Bottlebrush Trees.  I decided I wanted a “Winter Wonderland” theme this year so chose metallics and white as my color scheme.

Ornament Display

Since I do like to change things up I try to keep it budget friendly so after Christmas shopping is a staple. I picked up these glittered sleigh ornaments last year for 50% off at Macy’s and then filled them with small gold ornaments ( also a post-Christmas find). Topped with a metal snowflake ornament.

Vintage Christmas Mantle Silver

I made the silver tinsel trees a couple of years ago with supplies from Dollar Tree. To change them up I swapped out the previously red pom poms in the middle of the snowflake toppers with gold. A silver mercury glass tree topper rests in a stemmed votive holder…more after Christmas deals from prior years.

Vintage Mantle 2013

A DIY hurricane vase ( $1 candlestick glued to $1 vase…thank you Dollar Tree) is filled with silver and gold balls and some epsom salt snow.  I collect Marc Roberts faeries and this one matched my mantle so he sits atop another stemmed votive. To complete my mantle, I added metallic silver and gold glittered tulle.

Kiwi Turquoise and Silver Chain Necklace

Blue Moon Beads Kiwi and Teal Necklace

I recently received some design team supplies from Blue Moon Beads. Disclosure: I am a member of the Blue Moon Beads design team and receive supplies to use but no compensation. All designs and opinions are my own

Included in my supplies was a connector piece with metal beads that I fell in love with and immediately wanted to play with. I had a birthday present to come up with and the colors were perfect.

Using the metal connector strand as the focal, I chose some coordinating beads from my supplies. I really liked the kiwi and turquoise combination against the silver.

I left the connector strand as one piece and then used beading wire to make double sided wire wraps from the kiwi, turquoise and stone colored beads.

Blue Moon Beads and Chain

Using oval jump rings , I connected these pieces to lengths of antique silver chain until I had a length equal to my connector strand. I added an additional strand of the silver chain and connected the three strands together with  jump rings which I connected to two heart shaped lobster claw clasps:

Blue Moon Beads Blues and Greens

I had some leftover beads and realized they went well with some other beads I had in my stash, so I made a matching bracelet and earrings to go with the necklace.

Blue Moon Beads Silver Kiwi Teal

The bracelet is on stretchy cord and I used the kiwi, turquoise, and stone beads along with a large green focal bead. For the earrings, I used the stone and turquoise beads along with silver bead caps. All supplies by Blue Moon Beads. Most supplies should be available at JoAnn Stores.
