Valentine's or Anytime: Beaded Garland Tile Wall Art

Sharing another project made using a DT peel and stick tile. This is something I'll leave up year round in our bedroom.

Supplies:
  • Dollar Tree Peel and Stick Tile
  • Waverly White No Prep Paint
  • Beaded Garland
  • Glue Gun and Glue Sticks
  • Embellishments

You already know the basics with these versatile tiles. I centered my heart template and cut out the shape, then painted it with white Waverly No Prep paint.

I had this beaded garland from Walmart in my Christmas stuff but ended up not using it so I "de-strung" them and used the white beads, saving the others for future projects.

I started at the center of the heart and glued beads around the heart.

After getting all of the beads attached, time to embellish!

I had these heart locks in my stash that seemed perfect for this, so I grabbed them along with some bright silver self-adhesive "rhinestones" from DAISO, the Japanese dollar store. I loved DAISO when I was in the PNW, was thrilled when they opened up north in the Phoenix Metro area dnd beyond thrilled when we finally got one up in Tucson and we're getting another one!

I attached one of the heart locks to the center of the tile using Diamond Glaze dimensional glue, then ran the metal rhinestones as shown.

To finish, I attached some black ribbon since I knew I was going to hang it, and made a coffee filter flower to top it off.

But wait! If you follow any blogs or Makers who are in DT as much as I am you've likely seen some of their new additions to decor items. These were a no-brainer for me when I saw them and were perfect accents to this piece.

It's rare that I don't alter or embellish my DT finds but this I left alone, placing one on either side of the heart and adding a coffee filter flower to the top.

Valentine's or Anytime: Shabby Glam Cardboard Hearts

I saved some boxes from Christmas deliveries to use in my crafting this year. I had a LOT of fun with these and already plan on making eggs and bunnies and who knows what else! And one box goes a long way.

Supplies:
  • Cardboard Shipping Box
  • Acrylic Paints
  • Ribbon
  • Misc Embellishments

Cut your box down to workable pieces. I made a template to trace onto the cardboard and cut out my hearts. You'll want to remove the top layer of paper to expose the corrugated layer underneath. To do this, I dipped a paintbrush into water and "painted" the hearts. Before it dries, peel the top layer and discard into your recycling. Some came off cleanly, some didn't. I didn't worry because since the nature of these is inherently shabby...who cares?!

Paint the hearts with acrylic paint in your choice of color. I was fine with a little of the cardboard showing through because again, shabby.

Imagination is your limit! I randomly dry brushed bright silver and gold  on the hearts and because I'm a Virgo, I painted the backs with my base color because otherwise, I'd have been up all night fixated on why I should have. I know me! Now for the real fun. I grabbed some ribbon and wrapped a few of the hearts.

This is one of those things I picked up at Michael's and I swear it keeps refilling itself because I use the embellishments. Mysterious!  I used Diamond Glaze dimensional glue to attach and added rhinestone hearts in coordinating colors.

These went on my Tiered Tray along with the Jeweled Hearts I previously shared.

Valentine's Decor: Tiered Jeweled Hearts Tray

When you're on a roll, keep rolling! I am in a groove on Valentine's projects and made some more ornaments using fillable plastic hearts. You can see my first set here. This time, I applied paint straight to the surface.

Supplies:
  • Fillable Plastic Hearts (Dollar Tree)
  • All Surface Paint ( I used Waverly No Prep Chalk Paint)
  • Ribbon
  • Hot Glue
  • Heart Shaped and Other Self-Adhesive Rhinestones

I decided to apply the paint directly to the surface of the hearts. This paint really does go on anything! I used a sponge spouncer to apply which distributes the paint evenly and without any streaks.

Apply the paint until each heart is covered.

I don't recommend having medical procedures that get you sent home with things like surgical tweezers or hemostats but if you happen to have them...they make great crafting tools! I use my hemostats regularly to hold things in place!

Once your hearts are painted the fun begins! I pulled out some ribbon from my stash and used hot glue wrap it around the hearts, and used more ribbon to make bows which I also glued to the tops.

I picked up these heart-shaped self-adhesive rhinestones at Dollar Tree and decided to use the two tones of pink.

I placed three of them in the middle of each heart, then placed small self-adhesive rhinestones on the hearts as shown.

I was making them to use on a thrifted tiered tray I switch out seasonally.

And then I added some other hearts I'll post about this week!

BFF Open House

Happy Friday Eve all and here we are at the end of the first month of a new year. Perfect timing for the start of the Lunar New Year, right? This year is the year of the snake which, if I'm being honest, I'm like Indiana Jones in my feelings about snakes but in this context where the snake is associated with intelligence, resilience, and love, I'll make an exception!

I didn't make any snake projects but here's what I did share this week:

Before we officially start "Love Month", let's take a look at some of the ideas shared at last week's party.

Crazy Little Love Birds shared how to transform a chocolate box into a Beautiful Hanging Heart

Artsy Va Va shared how to use water slide decals, Sculpey, and gilding wax to make a Canvas Heart beautiful for Valentine's or anytime!

My Thrift Store Addiction shared her fun, retro, Vintage Tinsel Valentine's Tree

Finally, these Valentine Raspberry Sandwich Cookies from The Kitchen Is My Playground would make a perfect addition to any Valentine's table!

Thanks to all who linked up and can't wait to see what you've got in store this week!

Valentine Arabesque Tile Ornaments

I've had fun making ornaments for my little Valentine Tree. Let's just say I bought a surplus of these arabesque tiles when they became popular a few years ago. Like many of you, I made several Christmas ornaments so they were perfect when I was thinking of ways to decorate this tree.

Supplies:
  • Ceramic Arabesque Tiles (I think these are from Lowes)
  • Black Glossy Vinyl
  • Self Adhesive Rhinestones
  • Ribbons

They do come in different sizes and slightly different shapes. Several sizing charts are available on Pinterest to ensure you get the dimensions right when you size in your cutting machine software. I chose these two images in Cricut Design Space, sized, and cut from glossy black vinyl.

Clean your tiles. You can use window or all-purpose cleaner or I just used alcohol to remove any residue.

After you apply the transfer tape to the vinyl, position on your tile before using a scraper to apply. Once applied, time to embellish!

I grabbed some rhinestones (the dog worries that I'll embellish her some days) and applied as shown. Then to finish, I used one of the aforementioned size charts to cut out the backs for the ornaments from faux leather.

I covered the back with quick dry tacky glue and applied to the back of the ornaments. Finally, I made some bows and used bakers twine to create the hangers. And of course, one more rhinestone!
