Valentine's Lettering and Doodles

Happy Valentine's Day ! Hope your day is filled with love and of course chocolate! I didn't do much in the way of crafting but sharing some lettering / doodling I did in the spirit of the day!

All of these were hand drawn originals by me, then digitally colored.

Valentine's Lanterns

Disclosure: This is a sponsored post. Products in this post were provided to me. Project and opinions are mine.

Yikes. How is it almost Valentine's Day already?  Time to get busy with some new decorations right? Fortunately I get to work with Oriental Trading Company and with their selection of  decor and craft items, was able to come up with some new  pieces I now have up not only for Valentine's Day  but as part of my decor all year round!

Since I tend towards neutrals and metallics, I fell in love ( no pun intended) with these silver metal lanterns. I decided I'd make some altered candles to put inside them but since I knew I wouldn't light them, I chose battery operated flameless candles. They look great lit or unlit and no risk of burning down the house!

Never one to leave anything plain, I used a Love Letter background stamp to make candle wraps for the candles.

I stamped on plain white cardstock then tore the edges and went over with a metallic gold rub-on to give them an aged look. Adhered them to the candles with a strong double sided tape.

Still not content to leave my candlewraps alone, I cut a couple of hearts from some scrap glitter vinyl. And of course, STILL not content, had to embellish some more! What goes better with hearts than more hearts and keys?

I adhered the large keys with foam dots,  wrapped gold and white Baker's twine around each candle a few times  ( this also keeps the keys in place) and finished with heart charms and a rolled paper rose made w/ scraps from my stamped candlewraps. We makers don't wastestuff  do we?!

Once my candles were done, of course I needed to add some embellishments to the lanterns themselves. Using scrap glitter paper , more Baker's twine,  charms , and paper roses did the trick!

When lit, the candles give of a calming soft glow. I miss just sitting and looking at the twinkling lights of the Christmas tree. I think I've found a solution!

Supplies Used ( unless otherwise stated all are from Oriental Trading Co)
  • Metal Lanterns
  • Flameless Candles
  • Heart and Key Charms
  • Gold and White Baker's Twine
  • White Scrapbook Paper
  • Love Letter Background Stamp
  • Gold metallic rub on (my stash)
  • Strong double sided tape ( my stash)
Happy (almost) Love Month!!

Valentine's Day Easy Heart Canvas

Valentine Canvas Bling Arrow

I had some of the jeweled adhesive left over from my Valentine letters and even a little goes a long way. I had a canvas in my stash and made this piece to add to my mantel.
For this project you will need:
  • Framed canvas
  • Craft Paints (  I used Folk Art Acrylics Spring White, Hologram, Sequin Silver)
  • Washi or other low tack tape
  • Clear Contact paper
  • Glitter glue
  • Craft foil
  • DCWV Self Adhesive Jewels

Valentine Canvas

To start, paint canvas white (Folk Art Spring White). When dry, tape off and then paint with white glitter paint ( Folk Art Hologram).  When dry remove tape.

Folk Art Glitter Paints

Using clear contact paper ( thank you Dollar Tree!) cut a heart stencil, apply, and paint heart with a couple layers of Sequin Silver.

Valentine Canvas Contact Paper Stencil

Once the heart was dry I “distressed” the canvas using craft foil. The paint was still tacky enough to pick up the foil so I just laid it down and scribbled randomly. Where it took it took since I wasn’t going for complete coverage.

Valentine Canvas Foil

To finish, I cut an arrow from leftover pieces of Jeweled Adhesive. I just did this freehand using the grid lines on the adhesive as a guide. Embellish with dots of glitter glue and done!

Easy Blingy Valentine Letters

DCWV Bling XO Letters

Happy Valentine’s month! Why stop at just the 14th? Love should get a whole month don’t you think? Not saying I’ll have a month’s worth of projects but I do think I will leave things up for the month ( attn Mr. Chocolate).

I was tired of my previous Valentine’s decor so set out with no particular idea in mind to change it up this year. While on a  stroll through Michaels I stumbled upon these letters in the clearance aisle and thought they’d be perfect for VDay.  They’re MDF or chipboard or something.

P1013344

In my DCWN stash, I had some self adhesive bling sheets that can be cut into different shapes and which I thought would be perfect for these letters:

DCWV Bling Sheet Letters

Trace the letters on the back and then cut out using plain old ( but sharp) scissors. Before I put the bling on, I painted the sides and edges of the letters and applied  scrapbook paper to the back with Mod Podge.

DCWV Valentine Letters

I like that I can mix up my letters by showing both blingy, or one blingy and one paper or both paper or….

DCWV Bling Letters 1

Then easy peasy, peeled off the backing from the bling sheet letters, applied, and trimmed with a craft knife.

DCWV Bling XO

Supplies used in this project:
  • Letters to decorate ( can use wood, paper mache, etc.)
  • DCWV Adhesive Jewel Sheet
  • Scrapbook paper ( I used DCWV Decor Noir Stack)
  • Mod Podge ( I used Matte)
  • Craft paint, scissors, craft knife

BFF Open House Link Party #142

The Answer Is Chocolate

Happy Friday Eve all. It's unbelievable to me that we're already at the end of January and that Sunday is the SuperBowl. I am not a huge football fan but can't escape the hometown pride and energy that's taken over the Seattle area so needless to say, I'll be rooting for the Seahawks!  Don't worry, I still like you if you're rooting for the Broncos.

Here are some highlights from last week's party which was the best turnout ever.

Love Pottery barn design but not the prices? The Pin Junkie has a great project showing how to knock off the PB picture ledges for a much smaller price.

Valentine's Day is right around the corner and Jenn at  24 Cottonwood Lane has some adorable printables to share.

Laura over at Pet Scribbles has a glitter paint project that would be perfect for Valentine's Day or any occasion. These glitter boxes work as gifts themselves as well as to hold a little something special.

Sit down if you're not already. Don't say I didn't warn you. This week's chocolate feature is um well just let me show you:

ButterFinger Cup Sundae Cupcakes #thatnewcrush #shop, #cbias

Told you. Butterfinger Cup Sundae Cupcakes. Should come with a warning label don't you think? Go see Life With The Crust Off for the details. If you dare!

With that, on to this week's festivities!

BFF Open House Link Party #141

The Answer Is Chocolate

TGIFE....Thank Goodness It's Friday Eve! Hope you have had a great week and those of you in the East aren't buried under too much snow.  Another fun party last week and clearly people are getting ready for Valentine's Day. It's so hard to believe the first month of the New Year is coming to an end already.

I love old windows. I have to stop myself from buying them when I find them because they'd be everywhere. Diane from An Extraordinary Day has a gorgeous Valentine's window idea.

If you do happen to be covered in snow, you have to check out this idea from Debbie at One Little Project At A Time...make your own ice luminaries!

Winter is hard on hands but Trisha from Momdot has a fun sugar and shea butter recipe that would also be great as a Valentine's gift.

This week's chocolate feature is this delicious looking marble pound cake from Spindles Designs.  I could go for a huge piece of this right now!

OK let's see what everyone's been up to this week!

Love and Chocolate Chalkboard Printable

Love and Chocolate

First, did you know that Michele at The Scrap Shoppe is a mind reader?! She must be because just as I went to look for a red chalkboard background, up she popped in my reader offering not only red, by 7 other colors of chalkboard backgrounds on her blog FREE for you and me to download. She had to have read my mind.  Thank you Michele.

I like to think that Charles Schultz wrote this just for me but I’m not that vain. Still, it is one of my faves.

So in preparation for International Chocoholics Day , er I mean Valentine’s Day, I thought I’d make a printable to share. Click to bring to full resolution (it's sized to 8x10) then right click to save as.

You should also check out Michele’s collection of chalkboard fonts!

Happy Heart Day!

Key To My Heart Wall Art

Published On:

Key To My Heart Valentine's

I love it when a plan you didn’t have comes together! But first...if you're looking for the BFF Open House link party, it's still going on right here . Great ideas to check out and link up your own.

So. I had this big antique metal key in my stash and wasn’t sure what I was going to do with it and then I was going through my stamp stash and ba-da-bing.

Key To My Heart Tag

The stamp has the sentiment that brought everything together but more on that later.

I had this fantastic black and white glass heart in my Blue Moon Beads design team materials. LOVED it from moment I saw it but wanted to save it for just the right thing.

Blue Moon Beads Antique Gold

I pulled it out along with some antique gold chain, findings, and this metal tassel pendant. All by Blue Moon.

Blue Moon Metal Tassle

I attached pieces of a toggle clasp from the findings package to two lengths of chain and glued them to the back of my key.

Blue Mean Antique Gold Chain

Metal Key Blue Moon Chain

While that was setting, I worked on my focal point. Using the glass heart, metal pendant, another key from my stash, some ribbons and an antique book ring ( 7 Gypsies) I just kind of played around until I liked the result. This involved more findings from the same package.

Blue Moon Glass Heart

Key To My Heart Focal

I tied my focal to the book ring and then the book ring to the chain and finished up with some strips of leftover drop cloth. And now we’re back to the tag using the stamp that started it all.

Key To My Heart Tag

Small manila tag, dusted and swiped with Distress Ink ( antique linen) with a scrap of leftover paper and a piece of washi tape. I  debated about saving this to give Mr. C. for Valentine’s Day but decided I wanted to look at it now. It’s hanging in our bedroom where we both can see it. From the moment I got this key he’s claimed it as his. Well who knew he was right? ‘Cause he does hold the key to my heart.
