Foiled Again: Foiled Paper Sympathy and Thank You Cards

Sharing a few cards I recently made using some fabulous foiled papers. I am totally addicted to textured, foiled, glitter papers. OK , pretty papers period.

Timing is everything and right when I bought my Minc foil applicator, I started seeing tons of gorgeous papers that were already foiled. They just take things up to such another level don't you think?

Fortunately, I have found some wonderful 12x12 pads at Michaels that I stock up on when they have their "Hot Buy" sales ( $5 and/or 70% off) or when they have their specialty papers on sale.

This one is Indigo Kraft and Champagne foiled. It's such a rich color combination. I needed to make a Sympathy card and thought this would be good as an alternative to black.

I kept this simple using one  sheet of the paper from the stack, white cardstock and a computer generated focal. I printed the sentiment twice, trimmed one of the sentiments close to the border and then mounted it with foam tape to give the card some depth. I also used some gold mirror paper to frame the sentiment. This card is sized 5x7.

For these Thank You notes, I used a sheet of this foiled wood paper and vinyl feathers by Art Minds that came in a pack. Also Michaels. Again I kept these simple by using a panel of the foiled paper and framing the feather panel with gold mirror paper. The feathers were applied to light blue glitter scraps. These cards are sized 5.5 x 4.25.

These papers make it so easy to make your own cards since they do all the work with how pretty they are!

Flights of Angels Card

I usually don't name my cards, but this one is an exception. My son learned that one of the members of his PhD program and his wife recently lost a baby. It was a heartbreaking story and not mine to tell,  but my son asked if I would make a card for him to give to the grieving couple. Of course I would!

I was going through my Silhouette image library and found this winged heart which struck me as perfect. And when I decided on it, a quote from Hamlet came to mind which became the name of this card.

"Now cracks a noble heart. Good night sweet prince; And flights of angels sing thee to thy rest!"
In this case I was thinking of the parents hearts cracking, and it would be "sweet princess" but you get the gist.

I decided to use a monochromatic palette of white, cream and silver so went to my paper stash and pulled out coordinating papers.

Supplies:

  • Star Dreams Crystal Cardstock  ( base card, 5x7)
  • Cream Glitter Paper ( Recollections, Michaels)
  • Silver Paper (Recollections, Michaels)
  • Pearl Foil Paper ( SEI White Elegance)
  • Wing Charms
  • Ribbon
  • Silver Washi Tape

Cut and score card (5x7). Cut panels from glitter, silver and foiled pearl papers ( 4.75x6.75, 3.5x5.25, 3.25x5) and layer as shown. I added the silver washi tape to two corners of the pearl and silver layer before adhering to the glitter panel.

I cut two of the heart images from the glitter cardstock using  my Cameo and layered with foam dots then attached to the center of the card w/ more foam dots.

I glued two wing charms to the center of the heart as shown and then tied some vintage ribbon together, trimmed and glued to the center.

No card can possibly heal what the parents are going through but I hope it ( and the words I know my son will write inside) will help ease their pain in some small way.

Tattered Florals Sympathy Cards

Sympathy Card Sizzix

January has been card month for me. Not intentionally, but that’s all I’ve made and it’s been a combination of happy and sad. Birthdays and Sympathy cards. Cycle of life I suppose. Sharing a sympathy card I made and a couple of note cards for other members of the family.

Basic Grey Little Black Dress Paper

The floral paper is from the Basic Grey Little Black Dress collection. Other papers are a metallic silver and chocolate glitter.

Sizzix Framelits
Tim Holtz Tattered Florals

For the sympathy card, I used Sizzix Framelits to cut out the main card  focal and also used a  Tim Holtz die ( Tattered Florals) to make the flowers for the main card and the notecards.  I cut the flowers from the silver metallic paper and then used the end of a paintbrush to curl the edges of each layer of the flowers.

Sympathy Note

Used coordinating scraps from my stash and scraps of the chocolate glitter paper for the notecards.

Sympathy Note Tim Holtz Flower

Added black rhinestones to the center of each flower.

Sympathy Card Sizzix

For the sympathy card, I inked the edges of the oval die cut, stamped the sentiment, added a floral rub-on and edged it with a gold ink pen.

Tree of Life Sympathy Card

Tree of Life Sympathy Cricut

Another Sympathy card. I try to strike a balance recognizing the solemnity of the occasion, celebrating the life of the deceased, and honoring and comforting the living who mourn. This one is for a friend of mine who lost her brother after a long illness.

I decided to use a tree in this card, representing the Tree of Life. My Cricut “Wall Décor and More” cartridge has a great tree image so I used that to cut my image from a neutral cardstock. The cardstock is double sided so I ran another piece of it through my Cuttlebug  using a honeycomb embossing folder.

Tree of Life Sympathy

I layered a gray panel across the middle, adhered the tree, bordered the gray panel with coordinating scrapbook borders and tied a black and white polka dot ribbon around the panel before adhering the embossed panel to the card.

Tree of LIfe Sympathy CLoseup

Finished off the card with different sizes of black self adhesive rhinestones and a brass leaf charm.

Sad Card, Happy Card

To everything there is a season and that includes the need to make sympathy cards. Sadly, I’ve had to make several lately, including this one for a colleague whose mom just passed away.
Black Cream Sympathy Card
Gathered up my materials:
Sympathy Card Materials (2)
which included cream cardstock for the card, DCWV flocked damask paper, antique gold cardstock scrap and Recollections Elegance paper scrap. I was going to use my one and only “Sympathy” stamp but then saw this gladioli image at The Graphics Fairy so printed that out along with a sentiment.
Sympathy Card Close Up
Added some cream organza ribbon and plain HW store twine and dotted the centers of the main blooms with an iridescent Stickles.
On a happier note, my BFF’s baby started High School yesterday! We both have college freshmen this year so she’s got a double whammy of “My babies are growing up”. Made the new HS student a more mature but still fun card to commemorate this milestone:
Blue KandCo Card
I picked the blue paper up at Michaels ( 4 for $1 this week!) and then got home and realized that without even trying  it’s who else…KandCo! (Addison Blue Garden Swirls) Natch, I had to use KandCo scrapbook borders ( Abrianna) and a dimensonal sticker for the center from KandCo (Cottage Garden Pink). Ran a scrap through the Cuttlebug and finished with a clear sentiment sticker mounted to a scrap.
