Wreath Makeover With Paper and Ribbon Scraps

Scrappy Wreath

I had a productive weekend getting some Christmas crafts and gifts done, including this wreath makeover  that’s going to hang next to one of my trees. Yes, I said “one of”. No, the Hoarders people are not parked outside my house. Yet.

Scraps Wreath

I started off with a pressed wood wreath frame that you can find at most craft stores. I had a wreath from last Thanksgiving that I decided I no longer loved so I pulled all the stuff off of it which is what the white spots are. If people open gifts at my house, guess who hoards the scrap ribbon to re-use? I pulled out a couple of pieces and wrapped my wreath form.

Wrapped Wreath
The rough ends where the ribbon joined won’t matter since they’ll be covered up. The next part I thought I tool pictures of and oops. But to decorate my wreath, I used a Tim Holtz die to cut holly leaves, and branches from chipboard. Ran those through an embossing folder to give them some texture and then dabbed on some inks in metallic brown, green, and gold.  Went to my paper scraps and pulled out some black and white polka dot papers and made rolled flowers. And then to my embellishments stash and grabbed some off white paper roses.

Hot glued the leaves and flowers on over my ugly ribbon spots.

I finished the whole thing with a bright red ribbon ( another scrap) and it will hang next to my Whimsical tree that’s filled with lots of red, lime green, black and white.

BFF Open House Link Party#80 Wrap Up and Features

Thanks to everyone who linked up to Friday’s party. Hope you all had a great Thanksgiving and long weekend. The pressure’s on! Here are some ideas to jump start the week.

Paper Tree Ornaments Collage thumb Paper Tree Ornaments

Sarah from Alderberry Hill shared a quick way to make some whimsical ornaments using scrapbooking paper. You could whip up a batch for yourself and to give.

Speaking of trees, Janet, from Janet of All Trades whipped up these contemporary fabric trees to dress up her craft room. Love the colors and the patterns.

These would go great with this cute burlap and pom pom  wreath from Re-Made Simple:

Or how about a different twist on burlap like this candy cane wreath from Kathy at Life on Lakeshore Drive?

Finally, this week’s chocolate feature is perfect if you’re dreaming of a white Christmas…a white chocolate Christmas.
White Chocolate Toffe

White Chocolate Toffee from Lemons For Lulu. How festive does this look?

Thanks again to everyone who linked up. Hope to see you all again this Friday. Make it a creative week!

Easy Christmas Countdown Banner

Coundown Banner

I haven’t hung this up yet since I haven’t decided where it’s going but thought I’d share this quick Christmas Countdown banner.

Once again, I fell in love with a paper stack. It’s an illness. I accept  I have it.

Joyful Christmas

This time it was “Joyful Christmas” by Recollections at Michaels. Lots of vintagey goodness with some sheets full of glitter accents. Yum.

Countdown Page

You can see how easy they made it to make this banner since there are a couple of countdown sheets in the stack. I just cut each one out and mounted onto a black panel.

Countdown Numbers

I had these brads in my stash from after Christmas shopping last year:

Recollections Brads

Connected the corners using the brads but decided that 1-25 all together would be way too long so I did 1-12, 12-24 and then 25 as a standalone.

Coundown Banner

Framed "25" with a silver glitter scrap and snowflake brads. Used black and white bakers twine to finish things off.

Wishing You A Happy Thanksgiving

Gratitude

When we host Thanksgiving, I like to have a quote expressing gratitude, thankfulness etc. as part of my place setting. I used PicMonkey to create this one.

Wishing you all a day filled with family, friends, food, love, and happiness. Grateful for all of my readers and BFFs here.

Easy Cranberry Sauce From Scratch

Easy Cranberry Sauce

Whenever I tell people I make cranberry sauce from scratch they think I’m nuts (the reason they give me is the making from scratch part anyway) but I can’t think of an easier thing to make.  So I’m sharing here in case anyone thinks this is really hard. Of course when you make it and people like it, it was really really really hard. You know, like you picked each berry by hand hard.

I shared the recipe straight from the Ocean Spray website last year but this year, I remembered to take pictures while I was making it.

For this you will need:
  • Fresh or frozen whole cranberries. I used Ocean Spray
  • Sugar
  • Water
  • Orange peel ( optional)
You need 1C Sugar for each bag of berries. I used two bags so 2C. Same amount of water. Put those in the pot, bring pot to boil. I like to add fresh orange peel to mine:

Photographed here before adding the water.

Once boiling, add berries. We have lots of cranberry bogs here in WA and we pass them on the way to visiting my father in law. So if you see this on your bag, we probably drove by them!
Ocean Spray Cranberries

Mr. Chocolate loves cranberry sauce as its own dish. Not as a condiment. He will literally eat a bowl of it. So this time of year I stock up and throw bags of berries in the freezer.

Cranberries 1

Here they are in the sugar/water/orange peel. You want them to come to a boil and they’ll get a bit foamy. You do want to watch this pot boiling though because the berries will foam up and can bubble over.

Cranberries foamy

As they bubble, they’ll turn a darker shade of well, cranberry. I let them go until they just about reach the top of the pot and then turn off the heat. Let them come to room temp or mostly cool off. Go make crafts.

Cranberry Sauce

Once they’re cooled down, pour into bowl, cover, refrigerate. I leave the orange peel in until I ladle into my serving dish to let the flavor set.

Seriously. Easy. And the recipe’s from the back of the Ocean Spray bag!

Frosty Blue Wire and Bead Crocheted Bracelet

Crocheted Wire and Bead Bracelet

Do you ever finally get around to trying something and then kick yourself for not doing it sooner because you thought it must be much harder than it actually was?  Raise your hand and fess up.

I have wanted to try: 1.) Crocheting with beads and 2.) Crocheting with wire (and beads) but thought “Oh no. It has to be really really REALLY hard”. I was wrong.

I found a video on You Tube. Most people go to YT for laughs or clips of things they missed. I go for craft tutes!

BMB PB&J

I used a thinner silver beading wire ( 26 guage) and this bead mix called “PB&J” from Blue Moon Beads. I thought this color combo was perfect for jeans and sweaters and Winter.

Following the tutorial, I went to work and made this in about well I don’t know exactly how long but it was less than an hour!

BMB PB&J Crocheted Bracelet

I was worried about it being too small so I actually ended up making it a little bigger than I needed but I overlapped the ends and secured them with a lobster claw clasp. Problem solved.

Crocheted BMB PB&J Bracelet

I may even branch out of my usual neutral wardrobe colors and look for a frosty blue sweater to match my new bracelet!
