Book Lover's Day Printable

HAPPY BOOK LOVER'S DAY

I have loved words and books since I can remember. I spoke before I walked , and one of the fondest memories of my childhood ( and my dad, who I lost way too early) was of being propped up in my bed each night with a book, while his voice played on a tape recorder stored beneath my bed reading me the story.

He worked nights when I was very young and this was his way of tucking me in.

Growing up, I don't remember going anywhere without a book, and while I have become a less voracious reader of late (thanks internet!) I still read as often as I can. My greatest joy is that I passed on that love of reading to my son who, like me, actually heard the words "No we are not going to the bookstore today" because he'd quickly burned through the last book we'd bought .  No visit home from Grad School is complete w/out a stop ( or several) to Barnes and Noble or the Amazon brick and mortar bookstore we have here.

No surprise then that my BFF is also a voracious reader. This woman goes through books like I go through craft supplies. Non-stop!  I made this "Book Lover's Day" printable w/ her in mind and using a quote from one of my favorite authors:

To quote one of my favorite characters, Albus Dumbledore, created by the phenomenal JK Rowling:

“Words are, in my not-so-humble opinion, our most inexhaustible source of magic. Capable of both inflicting injury, and remedying it.”

Lettering Practice: Monday Motivation from Hermione Granger

Happy Monday all. (Trying to have a better attitude about Mondays!)

I lettered this quote from "Harry Potter" specifically from one of my favorite characters, Hermione Granger.

I was Hermione as a child. My nose always in a book and in love with libraries and and bookstores, and my parents sent me to the dictionary and encyclopedia when I had questions.

I've been practicing "bounce" lettering which basically brings the lower parts of the letter down lower so when you start the next letter it looks higher and "bounces" ( this is completely MY very simple explanation!).

Here are some explanations of bounce lettering from more expert sources.

From Dawn Nicole Designs: How to Do Bounce Lettering
From One Artsy Mama: Basic Bounce Lettering
From Pinterest: Bounce Lettering

Another of  my favorite HP characters, Mad Eye Moody, sums it up when it comes to lettering: "Constant Vigilance" which translates for me to Practice Practice Practice.

Happy Monday ( working on that).

Harry Potter Birthday Card

I am a huge Harry Potter fan and have a couple of friends who are also so it was a no brainer to make this birthday card in the Gryffindor house colors. I modeled it on the scarves the characters wore in the films using gold glitter paper to make the stripes to alternate with the base card stock color.

I found two fonts (free for personal use)  to use for the sentiment. "Lumos" and "Parry Hotter"  to create the sentiment and played around with them until I was happy. Then printed on white cardstock, trimmed, mouned on black and gold papers as shown and decorated with punched stars and rhinestones.

As the huge fans we are, we all have the "adult" ( HA!) coloring book! I finished the card with some self adhesive star strips I had in my stash.

I think the Sorting Hat put us all in the right house.
