Monster Birthday Card

I don’t often get the chance anymore to make kids cards, so I had fun making this birthday card for my nephew.
Monster Birthday
I created the focal piece of the card using both My Memories Suite and Printshop Deluxe. I’m having a lot of fun with digital software.
Monster Birthday Closeup
Embellished this little guy’s spots with iridescent Stickles to make him more “scaley”.
KCo Birthday Hat
Finished with a layered accent party hat and coordinating scrapbook stickers from K and Co.

First Card of 2012!

It’s been a slow creative start to the New Year although I have unboxed and installed my new Silhouette Cameo! Now I just need to learn how to use it! I have named her, and yes she is a her. Her name is CoCo.

Time and birthdays wait for no lazy crafter however,  so I have had a couple of birthday cards to make. I thought I took pictures of both but oops.  I did make them using the same papers: Basic Grey’s Little Black Dress collection.
Basic Grey LIttle Black Dress

The two patterned papers are the different sides of a double sided paper. The stars are punched from glittered cardstock scraps in my stash ( I am focused on using up my scraps this year) and the swirly thingys are leftovers from my sticker stash.

Inkadinkado Mini Stamp

I have a slight problem with clear $1 stamps. JoAnn’s, Michaels, and my soon to be closed ( waaah) local store Paper Zone, all carry them and let’s just say I’m an equal opportunity $1 stamp collector. This one is from Inkadinkado. I stamped the image on a scrap of paper from the card I forgot to photograph, and accented with glitter glue. The frame is from a pack of K and Co die cuts.

Life is Sweet Birthday Card

P7101398

What’s sweeter than a birthday cake?! I fell in love ( of course)  with these dimensional stickers in KandCo’s birthday collection. And I needed to make a birthday card. Win-win!

P7101396

I already had the Abrianna scrapbook borders of theirs on hand. I went to my paper stash and chose a paper from DCWV’s “Indian Summer Collection”.

P7101397

Tore the top of the the striped panel and mounted on a piece of blue cardstock, tore a strip of the blue to go across the middle and used one of the scrapbook borders on the bottom. Wrapped with a coordinating piece of grosgrain ribbon and finished with paper flowers, buttons, and self adhesive rhinestones.

Even though I thought  the cake sticker was already cute, I added some adhesive pearl “frosting” dots! Now I want a cupcake.

What Day Is It Again? And a Card.

Monday holidays always mess me up because I'm one day off for the rest of the week. So my brain says it's Monday but the calendar clearly says Tuesday which means it's time for Tuesday blog hopping. Thanks to anyone stopping in from :

Tuesday Tag-Along

Here's a card  made for my Auntie's Birthday:

  • Basic 5x7 cream card (I made mine from Domatar Feltweave Cardstock)
  • Cut 5x7 panel from "Me & My Big Ideas" Venice paper ( I love their papers because they're double sided); adhere to card
  • Paper flower made from coordinating scraps ( cut descending sized circles, tear edges, scrunch and layer)
  • Coordinating acetate strip from stash; layer to scrap of cardstock same width as card with edges torn
  • Sentiment. I like to minimize waste / maximize use of my supplies so I created a page of birthday sentiments in my desktop publishing program and printed it out on a transparency. I think I fit 15 different birthday related sayings in different fonts on one sheet so I can just cut them out as needed.

Card Tute

Welcome to those stopping in from Smart and Trendy Moms

Thanks for coming over and visiting my blog!

Here's a card that doesn't require either stamps or any cutting or die cut machines. It's especially easy if, like me, you're one of those people who picks stuff up when you see $.97 and $1.97 stickers on things so you have them on hand when an idea strikes. I use a lot of neutrals in home projects so when it comes to cards, I get to play with color a lot more and since I'm a bit of a paper addict ( a bit?) well let's just say I have pretty much every color in the rainbow and then some. Anyway, start with a basic card. My go to size is  5x7 because I buy A-7 envelopes in bulk when they're on sale. You can cut your own or buy a package of blank cards. I used to buy cardstock in every conceivable color but lately, I just use white or cream as my base card and let the colors come from the scrapbooking paper and accents. This is cheaper since you can almost always find white or cream cardstock on sale.
So there's my 5x7 ( which if you're cutting your own is 10x7 scored at 5 inches) and a package of scrapbooking borders I picked up for $1.97 at JoAnn's. When my husband is looking for me he doesn't call my cell, he just has them page me. Just kidding. Mostly.

I found a piece of scrapbook paper that coordinated and cut out a panel (6.75x4.75) with a smaller white panel (5.75x3.75).  I had some rub ons that I picked up guess where, and put corners on the white panel.

Top pic: Rub-ons and panels. Bottom pic: Two of the borders from the package cut to 6.75 and layered
For my focal, I used two paper flowers from packs I picked up at a stamp show, used one of the flowers from the border for the center and put an adhesive rhinestone in the middle.

Last thing I did, and these are something I always have on hand, took some clear alphabet stickers and spelled out "BIRTHDAY" on a scrap piece of paper, tore it to fit where I wanted and:

OK last last thing....some of the borders were left over so I put those on as accents in the top right and bottom left corners.  It's for a teenager,  young woman, and I was going for not too old, not too young, but fun. And if her mom is reading this, don't show her! It's going in the mail right now!
