BFF Open House

Happy September and Friday eve all! Yikes. S E P T E M B E R?! How'd that happen? I won't lie, I'm ready for Fall ( or as much Fall as we get here in the desert). I hope that everyone who's been in ( or still in ) the path of Dorian is safe.

Let's get excited for Fall with some great project ideas from last week's party shall we?

Some craft and home dec trends come and go but one thing that will remain timeless is book-page crafting, and this Book Page Pumpkin from The Organized Dream is no exception. I love things like this that can be up from now through Thanksgiving and are beautiful plain or spritzed w/ a little seasonal color.

You don't have to have a Pumpkin Patch to have a Pumpkin Patch sign and you will never guess what these started out as. From Fresh Vintage by Lisa S

How cute is this Acorn Sign from Olivia Ohern, made from supplies from the Dollar Store!

Finally, I couldn't resist this Coffee Chocolate and Peanut Butter Smoothie from Cooking with Ewa. YUM!

Now let's see what everyone's been up to this week!

Never Too Old For Disneyland: DIY Park Looks

I realize I haven't posted an actual project in FOREVER but between constant work re-orgs that make my day job feel like the movie "Groundhog Day" , a new puppy, and  my asthma deciding it doesn't like the desert, well... you get the picture!

Things have stabilized and we're off to Disneyland! We've gone every few years since we got engaged. I know there was a recent kerfluffle on social media by someone deciding Disney parks are not for people w/out kids and well, not trying to start something but, says who?  Last time we went we met several other couples who, like us, went before kids, with kids, and now as empty nesters.

I've never planned out Disney looks but "thanks Pinterest".  There are SO many ideas for cute park looks, DIY ears etc. that being a maker, I was going to make SOMETHING!

I may have gotten a little carried away. This post is a combination of : DIY ears I made ; ears I embellised ; accessories to go with. We'll start with the ones I made inspired by the movie "Up" which we love.

DIY "Up" Inspired Ears:

For this project I used:

  • Pre-made "mouse" ears ( Amazon, $10.75 for a package of 12)
  • Felt ( Jo-Ann)
  • Metallic pom-poms ( Jo-Ann)
  • Sequins (Jo-Ann)
  • Hot Glue (on hand)
  • Cardboard (on hand)
The ears I ordered from Amazon are smaller in circumference than the official ears. There are tutorials that show you how to make completely from scratch ; ones that show you how to embellish pre-made ears or, you can do what I did which was kinda combine the two.

Using a school compass I cut a 3 inch circle on stiff cardboard and 3.25 inch circles from felt. Arc the cardboard circle as shown. I just kinda winged it. You need a total of 4 ( 2 sides for each ear)

Use hot glue to cover the cardboard, pinching as you go as shown. It's like making dumplings! Once  covered,  hot glue to the ears on the headband.

Doesn't matter if your ears aren't perfectly arc'd because you'll embellish. Plus for me, I have a lot of hair in which they'll "nest" lol.  You will have a gap since you've made a sandwich of ear piece, existing ear ( this provides some heft) ear piece. No worries. That's where the pom-poms come in. Hot glue these around each ear kind of tucking them in the space between the top and bottom ear pieces. I did one side to represent clouds against the sky and one to represent the balloons from the movie. The bow is also made from felt. Not content to stop there, I made some jewelry to go with.

I had so much fun, I made a pair of Halloween ears since the park will be completely decorated for Halloween while we're there!

Silver and black fabric (Jo-Ann) and black pom-poms.

These ears I had but I took off the bow they came with, made a black organza bow and burnt edge flower, and them made some jewelry that works for  The Haunted Mansion, Halloween / Day of the Dead and that I'll be able to wear in October.

I also had some silver ears from a prior trip ( I may have an ear problem) and since I wear so much black I made some all purpose "Mickey" jewelry. The Mickey beads are ones I had from a previous trip. The other beads are from Michaels. Hello my name is Carol and I may have a jewelry making problem.

And yep, I'll still probably buy another pair of ears. In fact, I'm counting on it lol.

BFF Open House

Happy Friday Eve once again. The good news is, seems like the weeks fly by. The bad news is, so do the weekends but at least this one's a long one. Hoping everyone has a great one and those of you sending kids back to school ( or have already) enjoy some quiet time.

It's almost Fall ( hard to tell here in the desert where it's still triple digits). Let's take a look at some Fall inspiration from last week's party!

How cute is this Embroidery Hoop Fall Wreath from Kippi At Home?! And look at the coordinating fabric pumpkins. So cute. She even has the "Welcome" SVG file for you.

How cute are these DIY Color Blocked Tables?! Too cute that's how cute. From Abbotts At Home

If, like me,  you don't have a lot of Fall leaves, make some from paper! These colorful Accordion Leaves from Whitehouse Crafts look like a lot of fun to make and use everywhere!

OK let's see what everyone's been up to this week! Have a wonderful weekend all .

BFF Open House

Happy Friday Eve all. Yikes, August is speeding by, and I've seen more and more Fall, Halloween, and Christmas goodies in the stores. Not ready!

Let's see some ideas from last week's party.

Chalkboard signs remain so popular and I love them. Chas's Crazy Creations has a super easy one that looks like it was MUCH harder!. So cute.

I love the style of designed Rae Dunn. Being the makers we are though, more often than not, we're thinking of how we can get a look we love for less. It's a struggle! These "Rae Dunn" inspired signs from Kippi At Home tho...a MUST make!

I was hooked on "Harry Potter" from the first word I read to my son when he was little. Fast forward and I remain a huge "Potterhead" so these Pillow Boxes from DIY Party Mom based on the Sorting Hat are just so cute. She has more Potter inspired ideas as well!

Finally, if you haven't tried paint pouring yet , Abbotts At Home has a fantastic tutorial, including video, to get you started.

Now, let's see what everyone's been up to this week!

BFF Open House

Happy Friday all and yikes , it's already the middle of August. How? I didn't set out to do a wreath feature this week but there were some great ones linked up last week so it just kind of happened!

Let's start with this one from Kippi At Home. Gorgeous: the colors, the ribbons,  and the frame works so perfectly. Stunning!

If you don't live where the leaves turn color you can always recreate that feeling with this idea from The Organized Dream. Supplies from the Dollar store!

I've seen lots of great sales at the craft stores...getting ready for Fall and Winter. Check out what My Thrift Store Addiction was able to do w/ some goodies she found on clearance!

OK let's see what you've all been up to this week!

BFF Open House

Happy Friday Eve all! The only bad thing about vacation, is getting back into the work groove after vacation so this week has both flown by and dragged at the same time if that makes any sense.

Glad to see it hasn't slowed down anyone's creativity ( well, anyone else's!). Here are some ideas from last week's party!

Who else can't walk by the Target Dollar ( or more) Spot without stopping? They knew what they were doing! So did Chas, from Chas's Crazy Creations with this tray she picked up there!

I love a good upcycle and you have to see the condition of this char My Thrift Store Addiction made over! Didn't it turn out great?!

Speaking of upcycles, I dare you to guess what these awsome Patina'd Little Vases started out as. You'll have to visit Artsy Va Va to find out but suffice it to say they're something we all likely have on hand !

Finally, look at this delicious Spinach Raspberry Salad from Fluster Buster! Yum!

OK let's see what everyone's been up to this week!
