Game of Thrones Sword Makeover

WINTER IS HERE! Well it is if you're a Game of Thrones fan like me. I wanted to have a little fun with the premiere tonight so I grabbed a bottle of Wine from Cost Plus to share with PhD boy since he's home and the other GOT fan in the house. That was going to be our prop for the show until he started going through some boxes of stuff from childhood and found a sword he'd gotten at a Disney on Ice show.

As soon as he showed it to me, I knew I wanted to do something GOT with it. It was either going to be epic or a craft fail! I am pleased to say I think it turned out on the epic side!

Since I wasn't sure which way it was going to go , I didn't take a lot of pictures as I was doing it. I painted the blade with Martha Stewart Sterling Silver, and the hilt with MS Black. Then I went over the center of the blade with MS Metallic Gold and Gold Glitter, and dry brushed the hilt with the silver.

I had this knob in my stash and glued it to the top of the hilt.  I finished off the sword with some self adhesive rhinestones. I added a clear monogram sticker to the round part of the hilt. It was a pretty fast project!

I've always had a thing for ravens and had this mug (don't worry...not filling it up with the wine!) that I'd picked up at an art fair so it was a perfect prop to include since ravens are a huge part of  GOT.

Just a little fun and a great way to transform something from my son's childhood into something we both enjoy now! Since all great swords have a name, we have named this one Truth Teller since PhD boy and Mr. Chocolate regularly tell me I can be rather blunt.

BFF Open House Link Party

Woot. Happy Friday Eve. I'm ready for the weekend, how about you? Let's face it, I'm never NOT ready for the weekend!

Here are some ideas ( maybe even weekend projects? ) from last week's party.

See the curtains in the background? Want to know what they're made from? Only the most versatile thing ever...fabric dropcloths from the HW store! Check out how Lindsey from Repurpose and Upcycle freshened up her living room with these.

Who doesn't love a great thrift store transformation? This vintage sign from Vintage Paint and More is  one .  You have to check out  the before and Cathy did such a beautiful job on the after.

This gorgeous DIY outdoor solar light looks like it came from a high end home store. Victoria from Dazzle While Frazzled ( whose blog name I love!) has a great tutorial.

Anyone else want some of these like I do? They're called Martha Washington Candies and they are a combination of coconut, pecans, and other yummy ingredients. Thank you Marilyn from Marilyn's Treats for sharing!

Now let's see what you've been up to this week. Party On!

BFF Open House Link Party

TGIF-eve even though it was a short week. Hope everyone had a safe and happy 4th.

Here are a few ideas from last week's party to peruse while everyone shares what they've been working on this week.

I've always been drawn to rocking horses. The older, the better. Absolutely love the way Laura from Junque Cottage made-over this one!

Laura's rocking horse would look great on one of the stenciled floor projects shared by the ladies from Lolly Jane don't you think?

As a cardmaker myself, I can't imagine making a more special card than that of your child's Wedding card. This is the one made by Linda from Paper Seedlings for her daughter's wedding. GORGEOUS!

Now, on to this week's party!

BFF Open House Link Party

"Fri-nally" is my newest favorite word. Or almost "Fri-nally" since it's Friday Eve. Who's looking forward to a long weekend since I'm guessing many of us are calling Monday a holiday in addition to Tuesday?

Let's see some ideas from last week's party in honor of the upcoming 4th of July holiday?

This is just one idea included in a roundup of 4th ideas that was shared by Jenny Louise Marie. You really want to check out the others!

From Playdates to Parties also shared a great roundup of ideas!

When I first saw these fab earrings from Mich in LA I thought they were red white and blue but they would still be lots of fun to wear to a 4th of July BBQ yes?

How's this for a festive desssert? A Patriotic Brownie With a Pretzel Crust from Marilyn's Treats. YUM!

Wishing you all a safe and happy 4th. Now on to this week's party!

BFF Open House Link Party

A great big TGI(A)F! Hope you've all had a good week. Thinking of those in the SW , especially the Phoenix area where it's been hotter than living on the sun. Stay cool and hydrated!

Here are some great ideas from last week's party !

July 4th will be her before we know it. Hill House Homestead has a fun way to celebrate and decorate and using re-cycled jeans! Cute and practical.

Since it's officially Summer now, how about a Summer party? Bird's Party has got you covered with a fun bright festive spread!

No mater if it's just the two of you or a whole crew of you, sometimes we all get stuck in a rut when it comes to things to do. I love this idea from My Thrift Store Addiction...A Summer Activities Treasure Chest! Love the outside makeover and the ideas inside!

How about these Chocolate Chip Chocolate Frosted Donuts from Brooklyn Farm Girl?! YUM!

Now , on to this week's party and THANK YOU for coming and sharing your creations here.

Father's Day With Tim Holtz...Well His Assemblage Line

I hope everyone had a Happy Father's Day with the Dads in their lives. Sharing what I gave Mr. Chocolate which was seriously the easiest project I've ever done EVER, thanks to Tim Holtz "Assemblage" line.

If you haven't seen it, it's available a Jo-Ann (exclusively) and if you've ever wanted to make jewelry and thought it was too difficult, you definitely want to check this out. This isn't even a sponsored post lol. I was just on my own weekly wander through there and it screamed at me. Loudly!

It comes with mix and match pieces that all work together but the best part for me was the inclusion of "MAN STUFF".

I chose this textured leather band and these slider charms that come two in a pack. This is how simple this was:

  • Remove strap and charm from packaging
  • Slide charm onto strap

Do I need to repeat that?

It was serendipity when I saw the Wanderlust charm.  Little could he know the night before when he randomly brought up the term that he'd be seeing something using it the next day. We have been married for 25 years so maybe we have developed a freaky psychic connection?

The card was simple as well. One sheet of patterned paper, some coordinating scraps, and the focal was made using graphics downloaded from Creative Market ( Boho Style collection I talked about here).  I created the focal image in PicMonkey.

Now I have to go back and get another band to use the other charm!

BFF Open House Link Party

Hi all and Happy Friday Eve. Wishing all of the Dads of my followers ( some of whom are themselves Dads) a very Happy Father's Day weekend!

Let's see some ideas from last week's party before we get our party on.

Let's start with this amazing jewelry box makeover by Doreen from The Altered Flea. I love how she lined the inside to coordinate with the outside. No wonder she says these altered jewelry boxes are her latest obsession!

Speaking of re-purposing , check out this very cool DIY Wooden Pallet Planter from the ladies at The Perfect Storm.  Love.

If you're looking for a dessert for the special Dad in your life, you can't go wrong with these Turtle Parfaits from A Sprinkle of Joy. YUM!

Now on to this week's party!
