Halloween: Spooky Season Layered Bat and Moon Cards

Halloween cards just may be my favorite cards to make. I love using non-traditional colors and for this year's, I went with a brilliant royal blue as a color accent to go with shiny silver and gold.

Supplies:
  • Black 110lb Cardstock (Recollections,Michaels)
  • Metallic Blue,Silver,Gold Cardstock (Recollections,Michaels)
  • Foiled Halloween Scrapbook Paper (Spook Hill, Michaels)
  • Layered SVGs (Bat is from Creative Fabrica Moon is Cricut Design Space)
  • Digital Cutting Machine
  • Adhesive Tape Runner
  • Coordinating Sequins
  • Self-adhesive Rhinestones
  • Dimensional Glue (Glossy Accents, Ranger)

I selected the foiled skull and stars papers from the Spook Hill stack I had from last year. When I'm making multiples, I like to have my cards and panels all cut ahead of time, as well as any images I'm using. That way when it's time to assemble, I'm just focused on that.

Card Size: 5x7 so cut 7x10 and score in the middle.
Blue Panel: 4.75x6.75
Foiled Papers: 4x6

After deciding on my images, I brought into Cricut Design Space and then cut everything out.

The Bat SVG comes with four layers but I went with three. Black base, white middle, gold top. For the moon, I used the offset option in Cricut Design Space to create the gold layer and cut the image from silver paper.

I used spray adhesive to attach the Bat layers and then foam dots to attach the silver layer to the gold layer for the moons.

I assembled the cards as shown and then used double-sided tape to attach the moon and foam tape to attach the bat. To finish, I used bright gold sequins and clear rhinestones to decorate the moon and bat.

The blue reminds me of the night sky!

Papercrafting: Birthday Magic

I've been busy with updating and making home decor. I was thankful that a friend had a birthday so I had a reason to make a card, my first love!

Supplies:
  • Recollections Paper Stack, Spring Inks (Michaels)
  • Recollections White Cardstock 110 lb (Michaels)
  • Black and White Polka Dot Paper
  • Capitol Chic Designs Die Cuts (Michaels)
  • Crafter's Square Embellishments (Dollar Tree)
  • Foam Tape
  • Tape Gun

I pulled out some supplies from my stash. The Capitol Chic Designs die cuts,a while I picked up at Michaels awhile ago when they first came out. It's great having more diversity in crafting supplies and I love their work! I chose a couple of images to use as the focal for the card. I also love that Dollar Tree has increased and expanded their craft supplies and find a lot of embellishments there.

I chose a foiled-marble paper from the stack that coordinated with the die cuts, and them made a card from white cardstock (5x7) and cut a panel (4.75x6.75) from the polka dot paper.

I've had this Martha Stewart scoreboard forever and use it for all of my cards. I scored the 10x7 cardstock panel down the middle to create the 5x7 card, then applied the marbled panel and die cuts using foam tape to mount.

I skipped the cupcake stickers and just went with the rhinestones in coordinated colors to embellish.

Et Voila!

Home Decor: Shades of Blue DIY Wall Art

See? Not everything I'm working on lately is black! With a lot of wall space to cover and not trying to break the bank buying art for it, I continue on my DIY Wall Art journey. Our master bathroom has blue cabinets which are a nice contrast to the gray tile on the floor and in the shower. I decided to do a new painting to tie the two together.

Supplies:
  • 36x48 Canvas (Michaels)
  • Acrylic paints in shades of White, Silver, Blue
  • Paint Scraper and Brushes

My "easel" is a folding card table that works perfectly for these larger canvases. There was no master plan here. I started by painting a section of white, then blending in two different shades of silver. FOr the "water" effect, I did dots of blues and white and then dragged through the paint with a paint scraper.

For the center of the painting I did a deep blue that coordinated with the color of our cabinets, then did the reverse order of the silvers to white using a wide paintbrush.

Coincidentally, I'd done a couple of blue-themed paintings before we bought this house that fit perfectly into this room.

The toilet is situated in its own area so this is in that "room". I'd also previously done this Acrylic Paint Pour canvas which also works in this room!

I must have been psychic because both of the pieces I did before we even found this house remind me of the fluidity of water so they're perfect for this bathroom.

No Galleries will be calling to offer me a show, but I'm happy with my DIY Artwork and my biggest fan, Mr. Chocolate, is too!

Home Decor: DIY Modern Wall Art

This week's party continues here. Today I wanted to share an easy DIY Modern Wall Art piece. This was done for our second bathroom. Mr. Chocolate is more a fan of copper than I am despite the fact that we live in The Copper State and I wanted to honor that. This was a different style for me but I had a LOT of fun doing it and it was super easy.

Supplies:
  • 16x20 Black Canvas
  • White, Grey, Copper Acrylic Paints
  • Paint Scraper Tool
  • Brushes
  • Paint Pen

I stock up on canvases when Michaels has them on sale so I picked up this 5 pack some time ago. The only think I bought for this project was the Folk Art Metallic Copper Paint (Walmart $1.97)

Since the canvas was black which went with my color scheme, I didn't do a base coat.

After checking out a few videos, I just went for it! To start, I made a grid of dots with the white paint, then used the paint scraper to rough out a rectangle.

Since this was an abstract / modern look, I didn't go for perfection. I let the paint dry so it wouldn't bleed then did the same process with the grey paint.

As with most things I make, I just started playing around with the space. Once the grey was dry, I added the copper using the paint scraper. Then I switched to brushes to add some lines and fill in some spots. I also dry brushed white over some of the grey parts as shown.

Finally, I got out a black paint pen and drew some freehand lines. When I showed it to Mr. Chocolate, HE LOVED IT!

See? We don't even have a hand towel in this bathroom yet but I had this idea in my head and...priorities!

I think it works well with this print we've had forever!

Papercrafting: Layered Butterfly Mother's Day Cards

I always wait for confirmation from recipients that they've received my cards before sharing them. Maybe it's silly, but...

I always make Mother's Day cards for special women in my life. The Mumster, aunt, friends. And since I discovered layered cut files, I continue to be obsessed by them. These Layered Butterflies from Creative Fabrica are no exception!

Disclosure: I am a Creative Fabrica Affiliate so if you decide to purchase  this collection and use this link, I do receive a small compensation.

Supplies:

  • Spring Inks Paper Stack (Recollections,Michaels)
  • Shimmer Paper Stack (Recollections,Michaels)
  • White 110lb Cardstock (Recollections, Michaels)
  • Gold Foil Cardstock (Recollections, Michaels)
  • Foam dots and Spray Adhesive
  • Cut File and Digital Cutting Machine (Cricut Explore 2)

I already had the Shimmer Stack on hand but found the Spring Inks on a recent trip to Michaels and love that many of the Recollections stacks coordinate. No idea if this is intentional but they do!

My cards as almost always 5.x7 so I cut the white cardstock to size, then cut panels of the Shimmer and Spring Inks papers to fit and layer. For the butterflies, I cut two layers from the solid papers and layered using foam dots.

I did different color combos to coordinate with the variations in colors of the Spring Inks papers.

The star of these cards though, is the top gold layer! The Recollections metallic cardstock cuts intricate details BEAUTIFULLY!

They're so ethereal! Given how delicate this layer is, I used a spray adhesive to adhere these to the layered butterflies.

The  gold top layer picked up the foiling in the papers so perfectly!

Between the detail in the butterflies and the beauty of the marbled and foiled papers, the only embellishments I added were some tiny rhinestones on the wings.
